About | Morada Blue Swimwear

Morada Blue Swimwear is a luxury swimsuit brand that represents the spirit and belief of its founder, Kathryn Johann, that all women deserve to feel confident and beautiful in their swimwear.  Morada BlueSwimwear was founded when Kathryn realized there was a demand within the marketplace that was not being met: top quality swimwear, with flattering cuts, mix and match sizing options, and a heightened attention to detail.  The concept of Morada Blue was born after a trip to Islamorada, Florida with her sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Sean Cotton.  They were inspired by idea of bringing together the laid-back attitude, colors and feeling of the island, while addressing swimwear sizing issues many women faced.  As a result, Morada Blue Swimwear was named for beauty of the blue ocean and skies of Islamorada.

After countless hours of research, Kathryn realized what she would ultimately create:  swimwear sold in separates, with adjustable straps so women could achieve a truly custom fit.  She went a step further with fabric selection, rejecting hundreds of samples before finding the perfect combination of the best of nylon & spandex, with a thicker, stronger and more luxurious feel.  Of primary importance to Kathryn, is that each customer receives a swimsuit that will last for years of wear and enjoyment.  Each style is designed to slim and flatter a woman’s body to help women feel as confident as possible while at the pool or on the beach.  Morada Blue is elegant, feminine and sophisticated with each swimsuit named after the most important women in Kathryn’s life.  Every single product that is used for the swimwear is purchased in the USA and assembled in New Jersey.  Morada Blue Swimwear has received numerous industry awards and recognition throughout the news media.  In addition to hosting annual runway events, Morada BlueSwimwear has participated in the prestigious Swim Show in Miami, FL.  The premiere collection debuted to rave reviews, with many of the designs featured in magazine editorials and television interviews. Morada Blue Swimwear is committed to creating sophisticated, beautiful designs that flatter any woman.

Kat Johann

Kathryn Johann (known as “Kat” to family and friends) is a successful swimwear designer best known as co-founder of Morada Blue Swimwear.  Born and raised in Ridgewood, NJ, Kathryn received her degree from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.  She spent time studying abroad in Florence, Italy where Kathryn began to develop a sincere appreciation for culture, fashion design and photography and began setting her sights on a career in the fashion industry.  She moved to New York City after college to pursue this dream, but it was during a family trip to Islamorada, FL that inspiration struck when Kathryn realized the swimwear industry was missing something significant.  Kathryn set out to design a line of swimsuits women could feel truly comfortable in, while staying in step with the modern aesthetic.  As a woman with an hourglass figure, she was frustrated that bikinis are commonly sold as sets as most women are different sizes on top and bottom. She wanted to help women who had the same problem as her by creating swimwear that was more supportive with perfectly molded bra cups, better quality fabrics, totally adjustable straps and bikinis that are sold as separates to create a custom fit. It was also highly important to support local businesses and even though it is more expensive to keep Morada Blue’s production in the USA, it is of utmost importance to maintain the attention to detail and create a product that is a higher quality than what is readily available.  In Kathryn’s spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time withher family and is so grateful for the help and support of Nancy and Sean Cotton who has helped her to create this line of swimwear that is different than anything else on the market today.
